Ain’t No Classy Way to Snub A Snubber!

After anchoring, it’s good practice to “snub” your anchor chain with a snubber.  The snubber essentially absorbs any shock the chain might endure which makes life on the hook a little more peaceful ‘cause the nylon rope is a little bit stretchy whereas chain is not.  It also serves as the primary “lock” for the anchor and distributes the pull of the anchor to two points instead of one.

The funny thing is, it’s not pretty to attach!  You gotta wrap yourself around the front of the boat and squeeze through all these obstacles, there isn’t a good place to put your foot or your knee to get a good lean and don’t forget, the boat is a rockin’ the whole time! It’s just one of the wackiest things that we have to do to make life aboard a little more pleasant.  I thought I’d share a few pics of us snubbing for effect.  Do you have a classy way to snub a snubber?
